We had Alicia’s Mother Blessing (Blessingway) today. It was a wonderful event where we sent Alicia lots of great birthing vibes. I was very impressed with her network of support. She has wonderful friends and in-laws.

I made her Elizabeth Zimmerman’s February Baby Sweater from the Knitter’s Almanac, along with those fun, little Mary Jane booties.
I love knitting baby sweaters from the neck down. This pattern is a lovely 7 stitch by 4 row lacework repeat that I had to tear out a couple of times until I was able to remember the pattern. (I kept loosing my place!) I get too distracted, way too easily.
The yarn is from Off The Beaten Path in Monona. Once again, I had a hard time deciding on the yarn. I knew that Alicia was having a girl, though, so I chose between a pretty pink and purple from a neat new blended fiber they have. The yarn is Fibranatura Mermaid in Ibis Rose, in a light worsted weight. The blend is 42% cotton, 35% superwash merino wool, 12% silk and 11% seacell (a plant fiber from seaweed!) Very soft. Very necessarily washable.
The size of the sweater turned out to be somewhere around 6 months-ish. Just right for early spring. I can’t wait to meet my new little 2nd cousin! We’re all looking forward to meeting Alicia and Adam’s baby…she’s going to be very well loved.
